Have you ever get back from work feeling so tired and just wanna go directly to bed and take rest? Well, I'm sure many of us have experienced that too. There are so much benefits derived from just getting sufficient rest and relaxation. Based on studies if a person get less than eight hours of sleep a night, the alertness, productivity, creativity, and general health may all be affected. Do you agree? It is very important to get in excess of eight hours sleep a night because between the seventh and eighth hour is when we get almost an hour of REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, which is the time when the mind repairs itself and grows new connections.

We all deserve to have this benefits from rest and relaxation:

  • It restores our body and mind when tired- It's a nature's sweet restorer which invigorates the tired body, and prepares it for the next day.

  • It repairs the body - The activities of the body slow down when we sleep because we're not using so much energy moving around and thinking about this and that, therefore body building cells carry on their recuperative work. It's the time nature builds up and repairs the waste of our organism.

  • Rest gives more energy, decreases muscle tension, increases blood flow to the muscles, reduces blood pressure

  • Relaxation give better sleep, slows the rate of breathing, which reduces the need for oxygen

  • Enhances immunity & smoother emotions — less anger, crying, anxiety, frustration

  • Helps increase concentration

  • Gives better problem-solving abilities with less headaches and pain

  • Gives greater efficiency and letting our hearts rest by slowing the heart rate

Now let's talk about getting those benefits we deserved:

As written above there are so much benefits we derive from resting and relaxing and one thing is for sure, not all of us able to rest and relax properly. However, there are simple and good sleep routine you could try:

Setting sleep time schedule. Having fixed times for going to bed and waking up can let your body adjust (avoid sleeping in after a poor night's sleep). My husband and I use this routine and it really works for us.

Before going to bed try to relax. Stop thinking about work problems or anything that can give you stress for. Do this for at least 15 min. before bed. If possible take a fresh shower before bed and it'll help you calm your mind and body.

Maintain comfortable sleeping environment - turn off light if it comforts you, play relaxing music if wanted but more people just like a quite room (People are sensitive to noise, light and temperature during sleep so please make sure you make yourself comfortable as you can).

Napping during the day is a NO NO. It'll became your body habit and if for some reason you're not able to take a nap the next day then your body will seek for it and you'll feel tired and wanted to take a nap again even if it's time for your work.

Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol within six hours of going to bed is also a NO NO. (It'll only make you stay up longer)

Some people exercising within four hours of bedtime can't sleep properly at night (If you're one of them then morning exercises for you is beneficial)

Eating a heavy meal late at night is a big NO NO.

Watching or checking the clock throughout the night is also a NO NO.

& last but not the least PLEASE only use the bedroom for SLEEP and SEX and not for take home paperworks etc. Most people just bring some of their pending paperworks home and put laptop on bed and start working til get too tired. You should avoid that.

BUT sometimes we're just so uncomfortable of our beds. Here's a Mattress Pad Cover Down which is a 100% Cotton. Most people say that it helps them feel more comfy and relax. There's nothing wrong with trying. Lastly, if you are unable to rest, relax and sleep still after trying all this tips, then please see your doctor. They'll surely give you the best advice and might prescribed a medication to help you relax and sleep well at night.
